Install the mobile app (PWA)

Add Signals to your phone's home screen for push notifications, incoming call alerts, and quick access from anywhere.

What the mobile app gives you

Signals runs as a Progressive Web App (PWA), a full-featured app that installs directly from your browser. No app store required.

Once installed, you get:

  • Push notifications: incoming calls, new messages, voicemail, billing alerts
  • Home screen icon: launch Signals like any native app
  • Incoming call alerts: full-screen call screen with accept/reject, even when the app is in the background
  • Offline shell: the app frame loads instantly, even on slow connections
  • Biometric or PIN lock: protect patient data and business conversations on shared devices

Install on iPhone (iOS)

Signals must be installed from Safari. Other iOS browsers don't support PWA installation.

  1. Open Safari and go to your Signals dashboard URL
  2. Tap the Share button (square with an upward arrow)
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
  4. Confirm the name and tap Add

Safari Share → Add to Home Screen

After install, the Signals icon appears on your home screen.

Install on Android

  1. Open Chrome and go to your Signals dashboard URL
  2. Chrome shows an "Add to Home Screen" banner at the bottom; tap Install
  3. If no banner appears, tap the three-dot menu (top right) → Install app or Add to Home Screen
  4. Confirm and tap Install

Install on desktop (Chrome)

  1. Open Chrome and go to your Signals dashboard URL
  2. Click the install icon in the address bar (monitor with a down arrow)
  3. Click Install

The app opens in its own window without browser chrome.

Set up biometric or PIN lock

On first launch after install, Signals prompts you to set up a lock method. This protects the app when your device is idle.

Biometric/PIN enrollment screen

Biometric (fingerprint or Face ID):

  1. Tap Set up biometrics
  2. Complete the fingerprint or face scan when prompted by your device

PIN:

  1. Tap Set up PIN
  2. Enter a 4–6 digit PIN
  3. Confirm the PIN

You can change your lock method later in Preferences → Security.

The app locks automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity. Unlock with your biometric or PIN to resume where you left off. Your session stays active while locked.

Allow notifications

After install, Signals asks for notification permission. You must allow this to receive incoming call alerts, new message notifications, and billing alerts.

Push notification permission prompt

  1. When prompted, tap Allow
  2. If you accidentally dismissed the prompt, go to Preferences → Notifications and tap Enable push notifications

You can customize which notification types you receive (calls, messages, voicemail, billing alerts) in Preferences → Notifications. See Manage Notifications for details.

Troubleshooting

"I don't see the install prompt"

  • iPhone: You must use Safari. Chrome, Firefox, and other iOS browsers don't support PWA installation.
  • Android: You must use Chrome. If you dismissed the banner, wait 7 days or use the three-dot menu → Install app.
  • Incognito/private mode doesn't support PWA installation. Use a normal browser window.

"I'm not getting notifications"

  • Check that notification permission is Allowed in your device's app settings for Signals
  • On iPhone, go to Settings → Notifications → Signals and confirm alerts are enabled
  • In the Signals app, go to Preferences → Notifications and verify push notifications are subscribed
  • Make sure Do Not Disturb is off on your device

"The app feels slow or stale"

  • Close and reopen the app; it refreshes on launch
  • If data seems outdated, pull down to refresh (mobile) or press Ctrl/Cmd+R (desktop)

Tips

  • Install on every device you use. The PWA works on your phone, tablet, and desktop simultaneously.
  • Allow notifications on your primary device at minimum. Incoming call alerts only work if push notifications are enabled.
  • For HIPAA tenants: Notifications show generic content (no caller name or number) to protect patient privacy. This is automatic; no configuration needed.
